County Adds Pull-Offs to Waikōloa’s Hulu Street Evacuation Route
Good news for our Waikōloa community!
Last month, Wildfire Safety Advocates met with Acting Director of Public Works Neil Azavedo and our County Councilman James Hustace to talk about an important concern: the Hulu Street Evacuation Route didn’t have any pull-offs or signs. Without those, the road could quickly become unsafe or blocked if our community ever had to evacuate during a wildfire or other emergency.
We’re excited to share that just a few weeks later, the County stepped up and got it done.
Crews created pull-offs along Hulu Street, giving drivers more space and making the evacuation route safer and easier to use in an emergency.
This quick action shows the power of working together. When community members speak up and leaders listen, real improvements can happen.
A huge mahalo to Acting Director Azavedo, Councilman James Hustace, and the hardworking Department of Public Works crew for making this happen so quickly. This is an important step forward in keeping Waikōloa safe and prepared.
