Waikoloa Village Hulu Evacuation Route – August 2, 2025
On Saturday, August 2nd, Waikoloa residents participated in a crucial community safety initiative: the Hulu Holoholo evacuation route familiarization drive; an event hosted by Hawaii Civil Defense. We had the invaluable opportunity to slowly and safely navigate the Hulu emergency road, a route we all hope to never need but must be prepared to use.
The experience was both sobering and empowering. Driving the rugged, single-lane path underscored the absolute necessity of knowing the way before an emergency, when smoke, high winds, and panic could make the journey treacherous. We are deeply grateful to the County and all involved for facilitating this proactive event. This hands-on practice is a vital step in personal and community preparedness, ensuring that if the unthinkable happens, we are not seeing this road for the first time.
