Waikōloa Village Second Road Status Update Following Mayor’s Response

On February 3, 2026, we received this letter from Mayor Kimo Alameda in response to our January 26, 2026 correspondence regarding the second road for Waikōloa Village.

In response, Wildfire Safety Advocates of Waikōloa escalated this issue to multiple state and federal officials to seek clarity, accountability, and resolution. Responses have been received, and further engagement is underway.

Direct Quotes from Mayor Kimo Alameda’s Letter regarding a second road for Waikōloa Village:

On County responsibility

“At no time did I promise that the County would build this road. This is a private road; negotiations have been between the private developer and the State.”

On the County’s role

“The County’s role is that of facilitator to help align the State and the developer.”

On the expectation that the State constructs the road

“Our expectation and objective is for the State to construct the road and assume the associated liability.”

On County funding commitment

“I have not committed County funds for construction.”

On CIP funding characterization

“Please note the Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) list is a planning document, a wish list, not a guaranteed funding schedule.”
